Wang for Balenciaga

It has been confirmed! Alexander Wang will be taking over as creative director for Balenciaga.

Wang joins the likes of Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford, as American designers taking over Parisian brands.  As one of the hottest designers, Wang will definitely make an impact at Balenciaga.
In response to his addition to the house, Wang stated, “ I am deeply honoured to embark on this new role for a brand and house that I have such great admiration and respect for.” (nytimes)
Nicolas Ghesquière brought the brand to prominence when he took over 15 years ago, with his strange shapes and colour choices, yet still making the garment beautiful and elegant. It is no surprise that some are concerned that Wang’s casual cool clothing, will take the elegance away from the brand. Although, if Balenciaga are trying to be more profitable, by expanding their target market, as well as having lower price-range, Wang is the man for the job. (artinfo)
Even critic; Cathy Horyn is optimistic about this pairing, stating that Wang seems to comprehend what women want to wear, although sometimes tries too hard. She also mentioned that he should recognize what an amazing opportunity this is and to “surprise us.” (huffington post)
An upcoming 100-year anniversary, a new creative director and a possible new direction. If you asked me this is quite the year for Balenciaga, and I am not the only one excited to see Wang's first collection with the iconic fashion house.
