MFW: Bottega Veneta

style.com

By: Maddison Brown

Fashion can be a lot like being in a museum, we could stare all day and still not understand what the artist is trying to convey. In the instance of Bottega Veneta, combining wool and silk may be something we wouldn’t think of ourselves, but it doesn’t stop us from seeing the beauty in it. The Fall 13 models took the runway like portraits themselves. The designs and patterns of choice were abstract and beautiful, each looking like they were sharing a message.

The rest of the collection was heavier in texture and colour, most black and very classy. Drapery was common as well as the sleeve, in both bell and quarter sleeve. One piece in particular was fire engine red, with largely padded shoulders in angular drapery. Necklines were an erogenous zone of choice, with lots of thought put into the placement of the collar. The modesty of the rest of the outfits made the entire line one of pure glamour and class. Hair was pinned back in a very 40’s fashion, with coordinating red lips and full, natural brows. Definitely an expressive and thoughtful collection for Fall 2013!

MFW: Moschino

By: Quinn Bell

Although it was rife with traditional Scottish tartans, creative director Rosella Jardini cited the late Anne Bonfoey Taylor, an American athlete, designer and socialite with a very distinct and influential personal style, as the muse for Moschino’s Fall 2013 collection. The exquisitely tailored jackets and trousers, as well as the occasional embroidered riding helmet, gave the collection an equestrian aesthetic.

Three piece suits, mini kilts, cropped riding jackets and crisp white shirts were key looks seen throughout the show. Although tartans were the focus of the collection, 3D floral jacquards and grey and white pinstripe fabrics were used as well. Details included embroidered roses, hearts, ‘Ms’ and crests in gold thread, voluminous peplums on trousers and dresses as well as ruffles on collars. Models strode down the runway in sky-high hiking-boot-esque heels paired with socks; each wearing a pair of oversized coat of arms shaped gold earrings. The show came to a close with the glorious sound of bagpipe music and was a prime example of Italian luxury at its best.

MFW: Etro

By: Tamara Arnew

Etro’s interpretation of the geometric shape and digital print trend we have seen on the Fall runways, was an older appeal and had a biker-meets-bohemian futuristic attitude. The collection focused on Etro’s signature paisley in a psychedelic pixelated presentation, with magic eye motifs and mirror image patterns. Digitally illustrated abstruse prints were still very much in a Shangri-La traveller color palette made ultramodern by contrasting black sleeves and overlay shapes.

Neckline notches and side cutouts further added to the surrealist geometrical effect of the garments. Motorcycle jackets, leather gloves, and alternating styles of pointed toe ankle boots and pumps made the look radical with a rebelling undertone. Mohair, silk, high collars and fur trims kept the design’s luxe, so perhaps Salvador Dali through a kaleidoscope meets Marty McFly and the Bauhaus might yet work for the Milan crowd.

Donatella’s collection was full of latex body suits, pants and tops, accessorized with elaborate neck pieces as well as body jewelry along with nails that acted as clasps to some garments. The garments were paired with studded boots, and studded jewelry  altogether giving a domatrix feel.

The show started with latex body suits and trench coats, then adding tartan prints and heavy jewelry, as well as oversized nails acting as a clasp, then transitioning to pant suits, mini skirts and tight crop tops, the garments then evolved to skin-tight dresses and sunshine yellow animal-spotted coats along with fire engine red coats, moving to latex pants and extensive body jewelry, the show then ended with evening dresses with various cutouts and highly embellished trimmings.

MFW: Blumarine

By: Amanpreet Gabi

Anna Molinari has created an elegant collection for Blumarine Fall 2013 with opulent colours such as champagne, soft pink, black, white and shimmering gray. The collection showcased outfits from knitwear to outerwear to pant suits and a few dresses. She proved that trousers, whether schoolboy or wide-leg are definitely going to be a trend this fall.

The most eye-catching pieces showcased on the runway were the sheer skirts and Japanese inspired skirts. The collection had oversized blazers and many checkered patterns, as well as soft coloured pantsuits. A surprising key element in the Blumarine collection was the bold floral prints tied in with the Japanese style wrapped bottoms. The contrasting colours make a bold statement whether it’s on a pantsuit or a jumper. The Blumarine collection is anything but typical.

MFW: Just Cavalli

By: Adam Keller

Just Cavalli’s show this season in Milan was full of vibrant colours mixed with a lot of black.  Many prints were thrown into the mix, with a large amount of Indian inspiration seen throughout.  There was a certain exoticness to the collection, bringing forth an air of animalistic behavior.

This is not only due to the bounty of animal prints, such as leopard, snakeskin, and a really amazing tiger print, but also with the flow of the fabrics, the layers, and the culmination of mixing prints and fabrics.  The clothing was very structured and form fitting to the female figure as Just Cavalli is known for.  The boots were also animal print with different textures of pony hair and snakeskin combo.  These looks are definitely for a woman who likes clothes with that little extra oomph!
