“Kawakubo,
sees endless possibilities to subvert and send up said narrow genre of
clothes-cutting, often beautifully so, as she did with her spectacular fall
collection.” (WWD)
By: Julia Smith
With a collection based in menswear,
containing structured and heavy fabric items, the details however were
extremely feminine, with rosettes, ruffles and bows. There were also feminine
prints such as houndstooth, pinstripes, and multicoloured prints.
Starting the collection off were solid
buttoned up blouses, over were heavy blazers and matching pants/skirts shredded
at the bottom and decked in oversized fabric rosettes, the silhouette’s then progressed
to oversized sleeves and shoulders with fur showing out of the blazers. The
colours then turned softer, but the volume of the garments just enlarged, with
large bows, and more volume in the shoulders especially. Hints of velvet and
bright multicolored prints ended the show.
Overalls, a beautifully constructed collection
with some surprises, something we are used to seeing from Comme des Garçons
