Ghesquière’s Shocking Departure

After being honoured for presenting one of the finest spring fashion shows, the industry was astonished to hear that Creative Director for Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière, is leaving the legendary house of fashion. After fifteen years with the house, Ghesquière has been famed for reinventing the brand and his departure is said to take place on November 30th (WWD).

This untimely departure is said to be because Ghesquière has believed for quite some time now that he lacked support and funding for the brand. Furthermore, it has been rumored that he believed that the immense funding to Heidi Slimane for recently re-named Saint-Laurent added to the strain he felt. Francois- Henri Pinault, the CEO and chairman of PPR, said that Ghesquière conveyed an inventive influence, which is vital to the exclusivity of the house. British Vogue Editor Alexandra Shulman also famed the creative director stating that Ghesquière is possibly one of the largest leading talents in the fashion industry.

A prediction about what Ghesquière will do after this departure, is to create a brand himself, many industry experts have had their own opinion all circling around that idea.  The departure of Nicolas Ghesquière’s innovative and creative guidance makes it difficult to see who could do a better job than him at Balenciaga. However, it will be exciting to see who the new creative director will be!
