NYFW: Betsey Johnson

In fashion we are taught to express ourselves, with little focus on boundaries or set rules. Betsey Johnson takes this advice to an entirely new level. Perhaps it is how she managed to incorporate every single colour into her collection, or possibly the statement haircuts that were chosen for the models. One thing to be noted however was that every model was “talking” on a cellphone. Perhaps there was an underlining message there, but knowing Betsey Johnson, probably not. Most models sported crosses between ballerina and workout wear, with short shorts, spandex and tutus.

Prints varied between everything and everything, including polka dots, animal print and solid vibrant hues. A few less intense outfits included a fur vest in cross prints, and a quilted black leather jacket. Both of which seemed quite sober compared to the rest of the line, and both of which were worn over something fluorescent.  A notable floor length dress was shown in flowered print, paired with a heavy black fur jacket. Make-up was very eighties, in bright blue and extreme lashes. Perhaps it was a bit of a break from the rest of the Fall 2013 collections, or perhaps not. With Betsey Johnson, no fashion rule is safe and we’ll just never know.
