What could have been a haunting
walk down the aisle to a mortuary on the London runway for Giles’ Fall 2013 collection
was far from spiritless. Revenant bridal looks seemed to be in similar feel to
Chanel’s Spring/Summer couture. The effect of the show was an ellipsis from pallor
to corset, pyschedelia and Golgotha. Gold foliage and braiding as armour on top
of evening-wear moved to long length oyster and palest pink silk dresses with
digital abstract animal prints. The prints became raspberry and dresses cropped
to reveal contrasting black mod-in-the-Renaissance looks.
Oversized knit
beanies and arm warmers carried over between the switches in moods as did the lengthy
long sleeved, high necked gowns that made the shorter hemlines that much more
dramatic. Sleek and fringed flapper silhouettes counterbalanced billowing
sleeves and skirts. The collection was an oracle in itself and spectral of what
to expect from Giles.
