The
outerwear from Max Mara is rarely short of making a statement and the Fall 2013
collection made an oversized one. The collection had a definite vintage-finds
feel with Bauhaus inspired thriftiness to dove grey, camel and mustard yellow
oversized furs. The look was perhaps too provident for those who expected understated
luxury from the line but came across as interpretable and with rock and roll
aesthetic in layered proportions.
The monochromatic color palate, teddy bear
fur and cable motifs were styled in a way that still conveyed strong structure
and tailoring and, despite a menswear element to many of the outwear pieces,
were rovingly feminine. Turtlenecks overlaying leather, satin and full trousers
completed the effect paired with round translucent sunglasses. Max Mara has pointed
to fall and winter trends, forward from the arts and crafts movement of the
summer, and has given picking pre-loved pieces a new mode.
