For most people the holidays come and go and January acts as
a rest for tired Christmas shoppers. In the fashion world however, there is no
rest. Spring wear hits the stores, F/W shows grace the fashion capitals and the
one of the most anticipated fashion announcements sets the tone for the
upcoming year. Pantone colour experts got busy announcing their annual colour
of the year for 2013 and we’re excited to announce it with them, a beautiful
jewel shade of emerald green!
The official colour code for this new hue is Emerald
17-5641, but Pantone is calling it, “lively, radiant, lush, a colour of
elegance and beauty” (Pantone, 2013) . If you haven’t seen it, you’re in for a sophisticated,
almost royal touch to outfits this year. This is a much different approach on the year than how
Pantone inspired us last year, with their free-spirited Tangerine Tango, which
radiated off the runways with youth and brought us the beautiful coral lip
trend.
What is emerald green to you? For Pantone it “enhances our
sense of well-being, balance, and harmony” (Pantone, 2013). This is exactly
what is needed after a bit of a crazy 2012. Amidst the natural disasters, the
strange celebrity baby names, global warming threats… harmony and focus on
well-being is exactly what we needed.
Although not everyone can go head to toe in these yearly
hues, there are many ways you can incorporate it into your new year. The coral
lip of last year’s hue is a perfect example of testing your limits! Other
options can include integrating it into your home décor; with its peaceful
green undertones you’ll have healthy vibes all year. Another option is through
statement necklaces, embracing the jewel advantage of the emerald, or even
having your morning coffee in one of Pantone’s colour swatch mugs!
Pantone’s colours are all about the thrill of the inspiration
and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
Fashion defines you as a person, but this can’t be done without daring
to stray from what is familiar once and a while. Runways thrive off the
challenge of these annual shades and we know we can only expect the best from
the best this year. In the meantime, put some emerald into your 2013!
