Clare Waight Keller’s Fall 2013 collection for
Chloé was very pinafores, pleats and pencil skirts. The line had a little woman
sort of propriety and uprightness while maintaining directional and minimal prêt-à-porter
basics. Demure woolen apron dresses
and tweedy A-line skirts gave the look a schoolgirl to schoolteacher
transitioning point but were well matched with tulle blouses with contrasting
collars, leather strappyness, nautical anoraks, buckles and harnesses.
Sea foam
green, strong striping and sheered polka dots gave the uniform navy, polished
crisp white, cobalt and clay palate a light-footed aspect. Elongated sleeves,
glacial blue pleated harem trousers, architecturally knit turtlenecks and the
depth of textured materials was a subtle interpretation of the trending
voluminous top half in a way that had distinct wear-ability. Heeled oxfords,
simple sheath dresses with open worked metal overlays, and long layered tulle
ballerina skirts made for elemental evening wear choices. There was a neatness
and austerity from Chloé that still seemed wishful and plain sailing, and
perhaps the best part was there were pieces and pieces to choose from to fawn
over.
